Spread over an area of 20,640 kilometres and serving a population of 2.9 million, our diverse area encompasses tranquil rural retreats, busy seaside resorts and large urban conurbations.

But our varied and modern services are tailor-made for each community’s differing environmental and medical needs, from cycles to fast response cars, frontline ambulances, helicopters and nurses in our control centres.

We attend more than 250,000 emergency calls a year, over 50,000 urgent calls and transport over 1.3 million non-emergency patients to over 200 treatment centres throughout England and Wales.

Our dedicated staff are our biggest asset, and we employ 2,576 people, 76% of which are operational – 1,310 on emergency duties and 693 on non-emergency and health courier services.

We operate from 90 ambulance stations, three control centres, three regional offices and five vehicle workshops.

We also have our own National Training College to ensure our staff remain at the top of their game and receive regular professional development.

From 1st April 2007 NHS Direct Wales transferred to become an integral part of the Welsh Ambulance Service. NHS Direct Wales provides a 24 hour health advice and information service, signposting the people of Wales to the most appropriate level of healthcare for their needs.

We hope this site will tell you everything you need to know about the ambulance service, whether you want to work with us, join a First Responder team, sit on a patient’s panel or use our extensive news and picture libraries.
