Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a talented, ambitious, and dynamic nurse to join the Emergency Surgery and Elective care business unit at Northumbria Healthcare NHS Trust as Unit Manager of our soon to be opened Endoscopy Unit at Hexham General Hospital .
Main duties of the job
We have endoscopy units at North Tyneside, Wansbeck, Alnwick and our Specialist Emergency Care Hospital at Cramlington as well as Hexham. The new unit soon to be JAG accredited will have 2 rooms and be housed in its own department. You will be expected to provide visible, accessible and senior leadership to the current team and also the additional staff that will be recruited for the additional capacity. You will be expected To assess, plan, implement and evaluate nursing care within the Endoscopy Unit.
To be responsible for all nursing care standards and to maintain the high clinical standards required of an accredited unit.
To exercise accountability as set out in the NMC Code of Professional Conduct
Responsible for the management of all the human resource issues relating to the staff within the unit.
Holds a delegated department budget
Required to take the lead within your department for standards of decontamination within Endoscopy Departments, providing advice and carrying out regular audits.
Responsible for ensuring JAG standards are maintained to ensure accreditation for your department, assisting in the preparation for assessment and the monitoring of required GRS audits.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Communicate sensitive information when helping patients understand their investigations or diagnosis.
Required to act as the patient’s advocate, using empathy and counselling skills
Establish effective links with the local colorectal cancer MDT to ensure a seamless, timely transfer of care when cancer is detected.
Post holder must have the ability to manage a team, demonstrating excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate with the wider MDT. Must be able to organise own time and ensure the service provision.
Responsible for providing a safe clinical environment that meets all the expected standards of decontamination and patient safety.
Responsible for policy implementation and service development within Endoscopy.
Ensure the unit continues to develop to meet national standards outlined in JAG.

- 1st Level live NMC required Registered Midwife
- Registered Mentor
- Health related degree or equivalent knowledge and / or experience
- PP126/127 or equivalent
- D32/33 or equivalent

- Management/Leadership qualification

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
