Job overview

Nidderdale Ward  is a 30 bedded, predominately female multi-speciality Surgical ward. We are a fast paced, busy unit where no 2 days are the same. If you enjoy a challenge and thrive in an environment in which you are always learning and growing as a nurse, then we want to hear from you. We are a 'can do ' team and recently won the Trusts 'Planned and Surgical care team of the year.

As a band 6 on Nidderdale ward, we expect you to be able to lead the shift and the team you are working with confidently and safely. Patient safety is at the heart of what we deliver, and aim to maintain a high standard of quality care.

We provide pre and post op care both as emergency cases or elective cases to General surgical patients, Urology patients, Breast and Gynaecology along with some gastroenterology. Our patients can be acutely unwell and require quick delivery of treatment and a team around them that can spot the signs of deterioration fast. It is a varied role with many specialities which requires you to work closely with our specialist nurses in each speciality, as well as the surgical team and other AHPS.

The band 6  is key in collaborating well & building rapport with other departments to maintain effective flow from the emergency department, SAU and Theatres, as well as linking in with discharge lounge and discharge planning to  plan and support a safe discharge of our patients.

Main duties of the job

To support and work with senior nursing teams to provide support to junior colleague's, carrying out leadership tasks such as return to work interviews, sickness monitoring, new starter paperwork, shift management.
