An exciting opportunity has arisen for a band 6 Midwife to join Harrogate Maternity Unit.

We are incredibly proud of our maternity service and feel that we offer a high level of support to our midwives. We have a high level of staff satisfaction and a small, friendly and welcoming team. 

Harrogate is a high performing maternity unit and we are seeking highly motivated individuals to contribute and develop the delivery of high quality, evidence-based midwifery.

This post includes rotational opportunities throughout the maternity service including inpatient areas and community which will be discussed with candidates at interview. We actively support you to develop and enhance your skills in all aspects of midwifery. The successful candidate should have a good understanding of the national agenda within maternity and a clear commitment to helping the trust achieve this. 

Main duties of the job

The maternity department is responsible for providing all care to pregnant women and support for their families throughout the pregnancy and birth continuum. The department includes hospital and community based midwifery services.

 

Maternity Services provide care to pregnant women from the Harrogate and surrounding area including women who choose to deliver at Harrogate from Leeds, York and Ilkley.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The practitioner is expected to ensure that their own clinical practice and that of the other staff on each shift, within the area of practice is of a safe standard and in accordance with the unit policies.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • NMC registration
  • Diploma/degree level or equivalent with evidence of further professional development.
  • Provide evidence of personal and professional development.
Desirable criteria
  • Mentor preparation course.
  • Neonatal and Infant Physical Examination qualification.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience as a registered Midwife
  • Evidence of completion of a successful preceptorship package
  • Awareness of professional responsibilities.
  • Able to demonstrate an understanding of clinical governance and risk assessment.
Desirable criteria
  • Broad Midwifery Experience
  • Experience of working in a continuity of care model.
