Job overview

The Uro-oncology Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) will play an integral part within the multidisciplinary team, responsible for leading and developing the Urology Service taking responsibility for  his/her own patient caseload within the Urology Multidisciplinary Team.  The post involves the CNS taking on responsibility as “The Cancer Key Worker” undertaking regular Holistic Needs Assessment and referring the patients onto other agencies as appropriate in order to provide comprehensive seamless care throughout the patient’s cancer trajectory.

The role encompasses taking a lead role in ensuring robust cross cover exists across the hospital sites providing cover when necessary to ensure a continuous and autonomous nursing service exists. 

The successful candidate will be expected to work within a variety of care settings for the Urology service across Health Boards crossings care boundaries to achieve optimal continuity of care for patients with a diagnosis of Urological cancer. The successful candidate will also act as a key member of the multi-disciplinary team developing the Urology service within Aneurin Bevan University Health Board.

They will promote excellent clinical practice, decision making, monitoring and setting of standards – with a high level of critical thinking and holistic practice that is evidence based.

Main duties of the job

This is an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic RGN to develop their career in the Urology Department. We are seeking to appoint a motivated nurse with extensive clinical and leadership skills to be appointed to a Band 7 Advanced Nurse practitioner role.

The successful candidate will need to commit to completing an MSc and specific competencies set out by the Department. Experience in the speciality would be desirable, but not essential. The successful candidate will need to demonstrate post registration education and leadership skills. The successful post holder will be based at the Royal Gwent Hospital site. An in-house competency programme will need to be achieved. 

They will act as a senior professional within the Urology Directorate. The post holder will be expected to provide support and development of evidence based excellent services that are fit for current and future practice, complimenting National guidelines and programmes. They will provide clinical leadership, professional advice and facilitate the professional development of nursing staff and other healthcare professionals, patients and carers.

 

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Qualifications/Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • NMC registration Registered 1st Level Nurse 1st Degree relevant to nursing
  • MSc in Advanced Clinical Practice Pathway (willingness to undertake in order to gain full band 7 position)
Desirable criteria
  • Teaching qualification Independent Prescriber or willingness to become a non-medical prescriber
