Job overview

 We have an exciting opportunity to join our team here at The Bedford Centre as a registered nurse. 

We offer care to women who are unable to continue with their pregnancy.

We support and assess the women who seek treatment here through referral from the British Pregnancy Advisory service as well as women referred here from within our own early pregnancy services and antenatal clinics.

We care for women with  pregnancy complications , our  aim is to support the reproductive choice by advocating and providing high quality services to end and where possible prevent  unwanted pregnancies with contraception or by termination of pregnancy.

Surgical and Sexual health nursing experience would be an advantage.

Main duties of the job

The roles involve;

Nurse led counselling and assessment of  women wishing to terminate their pregnancy including obtaining informed consent for procedures.

Postal treatment for early medical termination

Clinical support for surgical termination procedures in an outpatient setting

Pre and post-operative care in the ward areas

Willingness to develop skills in contraception and reproductive health

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of termination of pregnancy procedures or a willingness to learn.

Demonstrate a knowledge of the legal requirements in relation to termination of pregnancy or a willingness to learn.

Deliver nurse led consultations to patients seeking termination of pregnancy in a non-judgemental, non directional way.

To be responsible for the assessment of patient care needs and the development, implementation and evaluation of plans of care, ensuring high standards of evidence based care, using a defined model/care pathway in conjunction with senior staff.

Ensure safe administration of medication according to Trust policy and procedures

Caring for patients both pre and post operatively

  • RGN
  • Evidence of recent professional updating and relevant personal development
Desirable criteria
  • Mentorship in Practice/ ENB998
  • R71 Contraception and Reproductive Sexual Health Certificate or equivalent
