Continence Prescription Coordinator

Band 6

Based at Central Manchester Community Clinic, this is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic, experienced nurse to join a dynamic team to promote continence in Central Manchester.

A project to improve the care for catheterised patients within the community is set to imminently commence and a registered nurse is required to take the lead in the newly formed Continence Prescription Service, managing a caseload of patients who are in receipt of continence appliances, making autonomous decisions regarding the management of their problems, including prescribing continence products.

You will have NMC Level One Registration, a nurse prescribing qualification and substantial continence promotion/Urology/Gynaecology experience which will provide you with the skills to undertake expert assessment of patient’s continence symptoms either in a home or clinic setting and to deliver and evaluate specialised, individual programmes of care, advising where appropriate on changes to treatment and management. You will also initiate interventions such as intermittent catheterisation for patients as appropriate, working with secondary care to provide a streamlined, integrated service to minimise referrals to acute care and to maximise the client’s experience.

You will be responsible for working with the Continence Prescription Coordinator to manage the patients requiring repeat prescriptions for continence products avoiding overprescribing and selecting products that maximise the patient experience and highlighting and reviewing those patients who have changes in their clinical needs. You will monitor prescribing costs and ensure that the most effective use of resources is maintained.

As this is initially a 12 month project, you will also participate in audit and review of the service to monitor quality and clinical outcomes.

You will be an excellent communicator, enthusiastic and well organised and work well under pressure. You must be able to travel around various community locations delivering care. The service operates Monday to Friday from 08.30-16.30 with no bank holiday or weekend work.
