Junior Sister / Charge Nurse

Band 6

Central Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (CMFT) and the University Hospital of South Manchester NHS Foundation Trust (UHSM) will join together to create a new Foundation Trust in October 2017 which will be named Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust; subject to required approvals.   Following this, the plan is for North Manchester General Hospital (which is currently part of The Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust) to join the new organisation around 12-18 months later.

As a result of this plan, it’s such an extremely exciting and challenging period in the delivery of health and social care in Greater Manchester and one that provides a wealth of opportunity. Our new organisation will provide a single hospital service across the city of Manchester and in 12- 18 months will also include the services currently provided by North Manchester General Hospital.  These changes will make a real difference to the health outcomes and quality of life for the people of Manchester.

An excellent opportunity has arisen for confident, compassionate and clinically credible nurses to join our dedicated team.

As the regional centre for Paediatric Oncology and Haematology for the North West, the unit consists of a 24 bedded inpatient ward, dedicated OPD and day case facility and an 11 bedded Bone Marrow Transplant/ Gene Therapy and Stem cell unit.

Ward 84 Inpatients cares for children with life threatening illnesses from diagnosis, treatment and supportive care and work with our non-malignant haematology colleagues to provide treatment and support for children with conditions such as Thalassemia and Sickle Cell disease. This is a 24 hour/ day 7 day per week service.

Ward 84 Outpatients and day case is a dedicated area to support the treatment of our patients in an outpatient setting. Our clinic facilitates 16 Oncology/Haematology clinics per week including a weekly general anaesthetic list for bone marrow and lumbar puncture procedures. The day case unit cares for children and families undergoing complex treatment for oncology /Haematology conditions and supports the outpatient treatment of patients with non- malignant haematology conditions. Clinic and day case are open Monday to Friday 07.30-19.00.

The Bone Marrow Transplant, Gene Therapy and Stem cell unit accepts patients locally, nationally and internationally for bone marrow transplants. The unit is JACIE accredited and is a developing service in relation to gene therapy (CAR-T). This is a 24 hour/ day 7 day per week service.

The units are all supported by a wide team of medical staff, specialist nurses and administration staff to provide a specialised, high quality and efficient service to our patients and families.

You will be supported in your career development including appraisal, opportunities for further training, as well as attendance at national and international conferences. You will support your Ward Manager in ensuring that high standards of quality of care are delivered and maintained and act as a positive role model within the department for staff patients and carers. You will be responsible for coordinating and leading the team on a shift by shift basis utilising and sharing your clinical expertise and knowledge in the delivery of care.

We are seeking an RSCN/RN Child with substantial experience at Band 5 within the field of Paediatric oncology/haematology. You will also be a qualified mentor who is competent in the administration of chemotherapy. You will have excellent interpersonal and management skills and be committed to the delivery of excellence in care.
