Either way, Eagle ward, the largest paediatric renal unit in the UK has the right role to suit you!

We are currently recruiting for a Band 5 - Experienced Staff Nurse to join our friendly and welcoming team.

We welcome both paediatric and adult registered nurses.  If you have renal or haemodialysis experience as an adult nurse, we will support you with your transition into applying your skills to our paediatric patients.  If you are a paediatric nurse with little or no experience in renal or haemodialysis nursing, we will support you with a structured education programme to gain and apply these skills.

We offer a rotation across our 14 bedded acute inpatient ward and 10 bedded haemodialysis day unit.  This rotation is supported by dedicated practice facilitators who will help supervise and offer clinical supervision to ensure you develop your skills with competence and confidence. 

Our inpatient and day case activity affords more flexibility with rostering and offers a better work life balance.  Flexible working applications are considered.

Main duties of the job

Eagle Ward as a whole provides nursing staff with the chance to develop and enhance essential high dependency skills, management of critical blood pressure anomalies and fluid balance disturbances as well as the development of complex dialysis and transplantation skills. We have established a robust educational programme including comprehensive specialist workbooks, a renal foundation course and a degree and masters module that enable you to continually develop both your theoretical and practical knowledge and skills. Your role will include the following:

  • To work as a skilled member of the nursing team, to provide a high standard of holistic family centred care to the children and families.
  • Ability to promote family centred care and establishes good relationships with children and their
    families.
  • To communicate effectively at all levels within the multi-disciplinary team.
  • To be able to take charge of the ward in the absence of senior nursing staff following performance
    development review (excluding intensive care wards and non RN Child Registered Nurses).
  • To follow and demonstrate the Trust Values, Expected Behaviours and Core Values of Compassion in
    Practice (NHS Commissioning Board Dec 2012) and adhere to the NMC’s Code of Professional Conduct (NMC 2015)

  • Understating or evidence of fulfilling requirements for Revalidation
  • Understanding of principles of clinical governance (e.g. risk management, audit, quality)
  • Experience of working as part of a diverse team.
  • Experience of contributing to an inclusive workplace culture
Desirable criteria
  • Understanding of nursing practice and innovation outside of GOSH
  • Knowledge of clinical incidents and complaints and reporting
  • Previous experience in the relevant specialty of post (preferably in an NHS setting)
  • Knowledge of ward specialties
