The Trust provides services to the 440,000 residents of Blackpool, Fylde & Wyre and North Lancashire, as well as specialist tertiary care for Cardiac and Haematology services across the wider region.

We employ more than 6,500 staff, with a turnover in excess of £370m in 2014/2015 and have approximately 900 beds.

Our main activities are

  • Cardiovascular care at our Cardiac Centre.
  • Accident and Emergency at Blackpool Teaching Hospital
  • Community Midwifery and Women and Childrens Services.
  • Clinical research with an 80-strong team of nurses and doctors
  • Community nursing ans school nursing
  • Recovery and rehabilitation for a variety of conditions including brain injury, stroke and elderly care.
  • Sexual health and family planning services
  • Wellbeing and lifestyle including mental health services, heart health campaigns, and smoking cessation services.
  • End of life and palliative care.

Between April 1 2014 and March 31 2015 we treated 100,662 day cases and inpatients (elective and non-elective), 329,257 outpatients and had 83,303 A & E attendances. The total number of community contacts was 1,228,494.

The Trust houses a state of the art Simulation & Skills Facility that provides training for all grades of staff to improve the safety and quality of the service that we offer our patients.

We run a portfolio of in-house courses that can be accessed by all staff to enhance their professional development needs. The training is supported by the use of modern equipment including part task trainers for such skills as venupuncture and full body manikins for the practice of emergency drills.

We are seeking two Ward Sisters who can demonstrate good managerial and leadership skills to support the ward manager and deliver the vision of the Stroke Unit
We have one permanent and post and one 12 months fixed term post.
We require a strong leaders as part of the senior nursing team on the Stroke Unit who are as keen as we are in ensuring that we get things right first time every time.

The Stroke Unit is a 39 bedded Unit with identified beds for both acute and rehabilitation patients. The unit receives direct admissions from Accident and Emergency Unit and patients remain under the care of the Stroke team throughout their journey until discharge. We take patients requiring thrombolysis, have close links with the Community Matron and have a dedicated early supported discharge team.

This is fantastic opportunity to join our team in this progressive environment. We are looking to appoint Ward sisters with a considerable experience in Clinical Practice and who are able to demonstrate successful leadership and managerial experience as part of a senior nursing team. The requisite for this role is a person who is motivated, dynamic and possesses excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills. You will be supported by a passionate and dedicated team including 3 Consultant Stroke Physicians, Ward Manager, an expanding team of Ward Sisters, and Specialty based Occupational therapist and Physiotherapist and a Clinical Matron all motivated to making our unit the best.

We are looking for the successful candidates to enhance and help lead our team of nurses who provide clinical nursing expertise whilst maintaining a high standard of care within the unit. They must also be willing to undertake training to be Thrombolyse patients. The successful candidate must be committed to clinical quality and continuous improvement.
