Job overview

We are recruiting for a Children's Community Support Worker - Higher Level who shares our vision to be trusted to provide consistently outstanding care and exemplary service to our patients.

The Children's Continuing Care Team provides specialised, child specific respite service to children and their families with complex health needs/profound disabilities  in the child's own home throughout East & North Hertfordshire.

Clinical Support Workers will be responsible for independently delivering specialist nursing care within the family home without direct supervision.

All necessary training will be given with ongoing facilitation from qualified nurses.

Main duties of the job

You will undertake all necessary training in order to provide nursing care to children with complex health needs within the family home in an unsupervised capacity.

Undertaking such skills as enteral feeding, c/o tracheostomies,  c/o children who are long term ventilated, seizure management, oxygen administration.

In addition, you will receive a High Cost Area Supplement of 5% of your basic salary, subject to a minimum payment of £1,192 and a maximum payment of £2,011 per annum pro rata.

Qualifications & Training

Essential criteria
  • NVQ 2 Care or equivalent
  • Able to appropriately progress through and complete QCF Level 3
Desirable criteria
  • NVQ 3 or equivalent

Previous Experience

Essential criteria
  • Previous experience with children or in a health care setting
Desirable criteria
  • Working with disabled children

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Ability to communicate in a variety of settings with patients of varying levels of understanding
  • Ability to work within guidelines, follow a care plan and follow instructions without the presence of a registered nurse
  • Ability to prioritise care
  • Self motivated and organised
  • Understanding of quality and change in the clinical setting
  • Flexibility and team participation
  • Basic IT skills or willingness to develop
Desirable criteria
  • Interest in developing a career as part of the Children’s Community service

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Understanding of the requirements of the role
  • Infection Control and universal precautions
