Are you a dynamic and enthusiastic NHS Dental Nurse looking to work with routine and urgent care patients?

This role offers the opportunity to provide chairside assistance and triage advice to patients at Springbank Dental Clinic in Cheltenham.

Main duties of the job

  • Assisting Dental Officers in the provision of treatment within the general community dental service.
  • Providing telephone assessments of patients with dental symptoms and provide management advice and onward referral as appropriate.
  • Use of all dental equipment conducting performance checks and identifying maintenance issues. 
  • The setting up and closing down of surgeries following infection control guidelines. 
  • Carry out reception duties as required including understanding patient charges and exemptions
  • Carry out stock control and maintenance of stock in the surgeries.  
  • Undertake definitive clinical telephone assessments of patients with dental symptoms using SDCEP guidance.
  • Assess and advise as appropriate through high level communication skills to meet the needs of the patient.
  • Refer patients as appropriate to dental services for ongoing treatment as indicated through the protocols and systems of the organisation. 
  • Maintain appropriate records as required, accurately recording, checking or amending details on the dental software system.

The “must haves” for you to be considered for this role: 

  • GDC registration
  • National Certificate for Dental Nurses or NVQ Level 3 in Oral Healthcare: Dental Nursing.
  • Have a car and driving licence
  • To be able to undertake all statutory and mandatory training and post holders must be able to undertake physical interventions. Fitness for physical intervention will be assessed by Occupational Health.

We provide a Multi-professional preceptorship programme that is aligned to the National Preceptorship Framework for Nursing and have been awarded the Interim quality mark from NHS England. Our programme is provided to all Newly Qualified; Nurses, Nursing Associates, Internationally Educated Practitioners, Allied Health Professionals and Return to Practice Practitioners. In addition to the programme we also offer all preceptees the opportunity of enrolling and completing the level 7 (Masters) 15 credit validated module “Preceptorship for Healthcare” (AP7026).

Newly qualified Social Workers are offered the Assessed and Supported Year in Employment programme (ASYE) which is similar to a preceptorship programme.
