Job overview

This role will allow you to gain insight and experience into the Gynaecology setting.  The successful candidate will be a good communicator who enjoys working with people in a varied clinical environment caring for patients going through a variety of Gynaecology issues. To assist with the provision of patient care and administrative duties within the Gynaecology outpatient service at St. Richards Hospital Chichester.

Main duties of the job

As a Healthcare Assistant  in Gynaecology you will support the Nursing and Clinical teams to deliver high quality care to women in Early Pregnancy, Colposcopy, Hysteroscopy, Two Week Rule (Rapid Access), Uro-Gynaecology and General Gynaecology clinics. This will be through a mixture of clinical and reception shifts.  You will also support the Gynaecology  outpatient service.

This is an exciting opportunity as we continue to embrace new developments and opportunities within Women’s Health.  You will be supported to develop the skills and competencies necessary for this role.

This will be a part-time post working, advertised as 24hrs but with scope for negotiation.  There will be a varied shift pattern, Monday-Friday, consisting of earlies, lates and long days

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • To actively take part in meeting the needs of the patients under the supervision of a qualified nurse, working within the Trust's policies and procedures and the philosophy of the department.
  • To work in a team with qualified nurses, medical, healthcare professionals and other support staff.
  • To report all incidents/accidents involving patients and staff to the qualified nurse and to assist in any enquiries.
  • To understand role and participate in control of infection.
  • To participate in quality assurance programmes as require.
  • Taking an recording of temperature, pulse and respirations on instruction from the qualified nurse.
  • Recording the results appropriately and reporting back.
  • Collecting and disposing of body waste. Testing urine and stool specimens and recording results and appropriately reporting any abnormalities to the nurse in charge.
  • Under the supervision of a qualified nurse, support patients undergoing clinical procedures ensuring their comfort and safety.
  • Carry out appropriate patient observations and procedures under supervision and with relevant training.
  • On arrival, check-patients in using the patient information system and complete other reception duties including booking of appointments when appropriate, completing clinic outcomes and supporting day-to-day operational running of the department
