Have you thought about working within prison mental health services? Interested in expanding the therapeutic interventions on enhanced mental health Wellbeing Unit?

This is an excellent opportunity for activity co-ordinator whom have experience working within mental health services to join a team working in a rewarding environment where you will get to develop a full range of psychiatric skills and interventions. Additionally, to the competency framework, we offer a comprehensive induction and workforce development plan with a vast array of personal, professional and academic training opportunities enabling you to expand your skill set and evidence-based practices

HMP Hull are looking for a key member of staff who will work collaboratively in the planning, development and provision of a range of therapeutic, wellbeing and social activities for the service users on the enhanced mental health Wellbeing Unit within HMP Hull. These will be designed to be appropriate to service user need and within the established service guidelines and you will be supported by the Nursing Team whilst working collaboratively with the Occupational Therapy Team.

We pride ourselves in providing a high standard of care within a multi-disciplinary approach, which is recovery focused.

The Wellbeing Unit will:

  • offer residents with capacity urgent assessment and treatment, intervention and medication to stabilise their MH and promote recovery.
  • establish pathways with regional secure units to ensuring safe transfer and remission to and from secure services when appropriate.
  • receive referrals from the mental health team and acceptance/admission will be collaboratively agreed and facilitated by health and prison staff.

The wellbeing unit will be clinically led and operationally enabled by the team working together within the service.

We are looking for people who can work relatively independently, using their own skills (art and craft, cooking/baking, gardening, music and exercise, puzzles and games) to support patients in engaging with meaningful activity, and through this promote wellbeing using a client centred approach.

You will need to be able to communicate well with a wide range of individuals, adapting your communication style according to individual need in a responsive manner.

Although this role will primarily focus on the delivery and planning of activities there will be an expectation for the successful candidate to deliver direct patient care and work directly with the nursing team to ensure patient care

The successful candidate must have completed a relevant Diploma Level 3 Relevant level 3 or above qualification e.g in health and/or social care, communication, teaching and Numeracy, Literacy Level2 (or equivalent).

Tees Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust (TEWV), provide mental health and learning disability services in partnership with Rethink Mental Illness and Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust (HTFT) in 2 prisons in the East Riding of Yorkshire. As part of the new Mental Health contract awarded to TEWV Health & Justice Services in 2022, we are expanding the service provision across HMP Hull and HMP Humber. HMP Hull is a Category B prison and the reception prison for the East Riding area. The establishment serves all courts in the region and accepts prisoners on remand or sentenced by the courts. The predominant population is made up of remand prisoners in the early days of custody whilst engaging in the court processes.
