Job overview

Velindre University NHS Trust, Cardiff and Vale UHB and Cardiff University have agreed a shared ambition to work in partnership to develop the Cardiff Cancer Research Hub. The CCRH delivers Early Phase Trials and Advanced Cellular Therapies for solid cancer and haematological cancers and will support Translational (Bench to Bedside) & Reverse Translational studies.

This exciting role will provide management oversite at 2 research delivery sites, Velindre and Cardiff & Vale, managing a highly skilled team delivering cutting-edge new research.

Advanced Therapies are emerging drug therapies and it has been identified as a training need for Early Phase Research Nurses.  This post will work closely with the Senior Research Nurse to develop and upskill the research team in readiness for Advanced Therapies and more complex studies. The post holder would be the link with the CRF and Haematology ATMP nursing teams on delivery on these collaborative studies.

This post also involves being part of growing and developing a research study portfolio of site specific cancer clinical trials and translational research, collaborating with research colleagues across the partnership.

This post is fixed term/secondment for 24 months to meet the needs of the service.

Main duties of the job

  1. Provide nurse research management oversite at 2 research delivery sites, Velindre University NHS Trust (VUNHST) and Cardiff & Vale University Health Board (CVUHB)
  2. Provide high level clinical oversight and management of the trials within the Multidisciplinary Team
  3. Provide clinical supervision, advice and develop the nursing research team.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Essential criteria
  • 1st level registered nurse or professional health care equivalent.
  • Masters degree or equivalent experience or qualification.
  • Evidence of continued professional development
  • Working knowledge of G.C.P and its application in the NHS research environment
Desirable criteria
  • Clinical Research Qualification
  • Teaching qualification E.C.D.L

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience as a specialist nurse.
  • Experience of caring for patients within the research setting

  • Experience of caring for patients in the Cancer setting
  • Phase 1 trial experience.
  • Clinical skills in delivering novel early phase therapies
