We are currently seeking a Senior Safeguarding Nurse/Practitioner to join our adult Safeguarding team. 

As a pivotal member of our team, you will play a crucial role in supporting the Safeguarding Adults and Children's Operational Lead Nurses in advancing our Trust's Safeguarding agenda, encompassing a diverse range of responsibilities. Your responsibilities will extend to offering safeguarding leadership, Mental Capacity Act (2005) advice, supervision to a diverse group of professionals, and participation in training development and delivery across the Trust.

This role is primarily based in Weston-super-Mare, this role may require occasional travel to our Bristol site.

Main duties of the job

Deputise for Operational Lead Nurse: Assume the role of the Operational Lead Nurse for Safeguarding Adults when necessary, providing specialised guidance, support, and supervision across the Trust.

Collaborate with Safeguarding Team: Work closely with the safeguarding Adult’s team to safeguard adults at risk of harm as required.

Complex Case Management: Assist staff in managing complex and serious safeguarding adult cases, including participation in strategy discussions and complex case meetings.

Expert Guidance: Offer expert advice and support to practitioners concerning all aspects of Safeguarding adults and with a Think family approach.

Training and Development: Contribute to the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based training across the Trust, catering to a wide array of disciplines.

Research Involvement: Collaborate with the Operational Lead for Safeguarding Adults in the development, promotion, advice, support, and supervision of research initiatives.

Data and Statistics: Compile and monitor statistics related to adult protection activities across the Trust.

Continuous Professional Development: Maintain your own professional development in alignment with current research and findings.

Stay Informed: Stay abreast of relevant, up-to-date research and ensure dissemination to relevant staff and managers across the Trust.

Qualifications and Training

Essential criteria
  • Registered 1st Level Nurse on the NMC register (Adult or Children) or Social Work Practitioner
  • Current NMC/SWE Registration
  • Master's qualification or equivalent level of experience gained through clinical and management roles
  • Evidence of professional/ clinical knowledge in safeguarding supplemented by specialist training
  • Recognised teaching/training qualification or equivalent experience
Desirable criteria
  • Safeguarding supervision training/ experience
  • Registered qualification in Safeguarding Adults

Essential criteria
  • Willing to travel
  • Is flexible and adaptable in a high pressure environment
  • Focuses on achieving results of high quality in a safe and effective way
  • Negotiation skills

Knowledge and Experience

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of leadership, management, and organisational experience
  • Proven evidence of teaching large groups
  • Experience of managing complex safeguarding cases
  • Relevant experience of working with safeguarding cases in a variety of settings involving adults or children services
  • Experience of supporting and supervising staff in a clinical / safeguarding setting
  • Experience of attending safeguarding strategies / case conferences / participating in protection plans
  • Participation in the development and delivery of quality training programmes
  • An understanding of current issues in adult safeguarding, including knowledge of research and inquiry reports, and impact on current practice
  • Safeguarding adults and MCA Knowledge and Experience, including multi-agency working
  • Commitment to sustain ongoing professional development
  • Personal Stress management strategy
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of inter-agency partnership working
  • Direct involvement with change management initiatives
  • Experience of working in an acute adult's health care environemnt
  • Knowledge and experience of using different tools providing staff supervision and support

Skills and Abilities

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of Safeguarding Legislation, current issues, and inquiry reports for Children and/or Adults
  • Knowledge and ability in using different tools providing staff supervision and support
  • Proven communication and influencing skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with highly developed persuasive, motivational and negotiating skills
  • Ability to analyse complex data and provide Board level written reports
  • Ability to priorotise a complex workload and work independently in a rapidly changing environment
  • Good understanding of the nature and aetiology of adult abuse and neglect and MCA
  • Proven leadership ability
  • Computer literate, able to utilise multiple software systems in order to collate information
  • Ability to manage Safeguarding information sharing in line with Data protection legislation
  • Experience of undertaking audits
