Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for the appointment of Deputy Team Leaders (Senior staff nurse's) within HMP Birmingham to join Birmingham Recovery Team. We are looking to recruit highly motivated individuals who are passionate about providing high quality and compassionate care within a unique environment.

Birmingham Recovery team's role involves assessing, planning, and treating prisoners who come into custody with substance issues be that alcohol or drugs.

As an integrated healthcare service, we work collaboratively with the Psychosocial team, Primary Care and Mental Health teams. It is an exciting time for the addictions team here and we need a dynamic and eager person to join the team, bringing fresh ideas and a willingness to evolve the service.

This will provide the candidate with the opportunity to gain experience at this level- including staff supervision and support. As you may know this is a very busy time of change within the prison, an opportunity for us to maximise on those changes to make our own. This is an opportunity to be a part of those changes at a management level.

The successful candidates will need excellent communication and organisational skills and setting their own work agenda in line with the job role and Trust policies.

Main duties of the job

Applicants must be a Registered Nurse who are able to work in a challenging, dynamic and recovery focused environment.

You will need to demonstrate a range of skills including the following:

  • Effective leadership and management
  • Staff supervision and appraisals
  • Rota management
  • Effective communication, empathy, self-awareness, compassion and critical self-reflection

This role requires a minimum of 2 years experience at Band 5.

Experience working within secure and offender healthcare is desirable.

As part of the recruitment process and offer of employment, HMPPS security  enhanced level 1 clearance is required.
