Band 5 Staff Nurse (Orthopaedic Trauma Unit)
This is a fixed-term post for 12 months to cover maternity leave.

We offer great opportunities to develop your career. We hold weekly ward teaching sessions alongside consultant-led teaching. We have an advanced trauma nurse team who hold regular teaching on traction and spinal injuries, bi-yearly trauma specific SDs.
We also offer further development by offering level 6 & 7 courses linked to the local universities. There is a preceptorship programme for newly qualified nurses, supported by the trust.
We also have opportunities for link roles if you have a passion in a certain area of nursing and can offer training in that area to improve your role.
Main duties of the job
We have an exciting opportunity for a staff nurse to join our friendly, professional, successful and outstanding team.
The Trauma Unit cares for patients during an unplanned admission.
We provide pre & postoperative care, early rehabilitation alongside conservative treatments for our patients.
The trauma team works closely with the dedicated fractured neck of femur unit, collaborating across specialities including ortho-geriatricians, medical and surgical teams.
We ensure that all of our staff are supported in the working environment by always having a band 6 SSN on duty during the day, and during some night shifts.
We have a supervisory band 7 Sister and an active practice education team who can work alongside staff as required.
We offer a two week supernumerary induction programme on the ward to help new staff settle into our team.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The post-holder is responsible for undertaking and recording comprehensive nursing assessment and planning, delivering and evaluating high standards of evidenced-based nursing care to a diverse group of patients.
Deliver care without direct supervision and be accountable for the care delivered and any omissions of care.
Teach and supervise more junior staff, students and the non-registered nursing workforce.
Be accountable for care or any omissions of care that you delegate to others.
Act as role model, delivering care with empathy and compassion as part of a multidisciplinary team.

- Current NMC registration
- Evidence of recent continuous professional development

- Experience (through placement or employment) of working in an acute clinical environment
