Job overview

**Band 2 Operating Department Practitioner (ODP) BSc Degree Apprenticeship Programme**

An exciting opportunity has arisen for applicants to apply for a place on a 3 year ODP Apprenticeship degree programme at either the University of West London or Bucks New University, with clinical placements within the perioperative environment at the Royal Berkshire Hospital RBH) in Reading and the West Berkshire Community Hospital (WBCH) in Thatcham.

You will need to provide evidence of Maths & English GCSE Grade 5/C / Functional Skills or above, completed the Care Certificate and any other academic qualifications to gain entry onto the ODP Apprenticeship degree programme.

Applicants must have experience of working as a Healthcare Assistant, preferably in the perioperative environment, and have a passion and drive to develop into an Operating Department Practitioner.

The Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust has an excellent partnership with the University of West London and Bucks New University to ensure high standards of clinical practice, alongside academia.

Applicants will be paid as a Band 2 whilst on the program and be expected to work a 37.5 hour week.

The closing date for applications is Sunday 5th May 2024.

Interviews will take place on Friday 10th May 2024.

Apprenticeship Eligibility

Under UK Government rules Degree Apprentices:

• Must be employed for a minimum of 30 hours per week.
• Must have the right to live and work in the UK.
• Must be employed in a role related to the subject matter of the Degree.
• Current Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) and Occupational Health (OH) checks and Covid Risk Assessment (record of vaccination).

Programme Entry Requirement

• Employed in a clinically appropriate role.
• GCSE grade C/4 in English Language & Maths or equivalent qualifications e.g. Functional Skills / Key Skills; Level 2 adult Literacy &  Numeracy.
• Level 3 Academic Qualification or Access to Higher Education Diploma.
• Those with no prior academic qualification must produce evidence of academic ability by writing a 500 to 1000 words personal statement.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

This programme will provide apprentices with the key knowledge and skills to prepare them to work within the Operating Department and associated areas.

This includes working within a multi-disciplinary team providing high quality, individualised care for patients throughout their perioperative journey and beyond.
