Job overview

We are looking for a nurse who is passionate about wound care to run the nurse led Plastic dressing clinic at Charing Cross Hospital. The Plastic surgery department is a busy tertiary referral centre which treats a high volume of breast and head & neck reconstruction patients, undertaking 200-250 free flaps per year.  The Plastics dressing clinic offers a 5 day service providing expert post- operative wound care service for  patients undergoing reconstructive surgery as well as skin cancer patients.

This role calls for a nurse with both passion and experience in plastic surgery and wound care as well as good clinical decision making skills. It offers independent working and autonomy, while working as part of a well- established team. The successful candidate will work very closely with the plastic and reconstructive CNS, plastic surgery team, develop outpatient wound care services; liaise with Tissue Viability,  Breast Care nurses, GPs and community nurses.

Main duties of the job

·        To provide high quality, effective, individualized care to all patients by assessing care needs and developing, implementing and evaluating them without supervision

·         To act as a high profile, accessible and responsive leader with clinical responsibility within the specialist plastic surgery and wound care.

·        To make informed decisions within own area and scope of professional practice to ensure agreed standards, objectives and targets are met.

·          Monitor standards of nursing care and take appropriate action to maintain and improve them

·       Management of the Plastic Dressing Clinic

·        To provide cover and advice to other specialties as required

·         To effectively line manage own roster ensuring that annual leave and holidays a booked in advance
