Job overview

An exciting opportunity has risen to work within the Tier 4 Access Team based at The Cove. The Access Team is looking to recruit a band 6 RMN/Social Worker/Occupational Therapist to complete holistic and comprehensive gatekeeping assessments for young people across the Lancashire and South Cumbria footprint.

The successful candidate would be expected to be based at The Cove and would work across the Lancashire and South Cumbria footprint in various settings to undertake assessments of young people, including A&E, paediatric wards, police custody and home environments. You will join mental health act assessments for young people to provide gatekeeping assessments collaboratively to avoid young people experiencing repeated assessments.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be required to undertake specialist tier 4 access (gatekeeping) mental health assessments (including clinical risk) with clinical and crisis interventions for young people presenting with acute and severe mental health episodes in critical situations.

Provide CYPMH tier 4 access assessments across Lancashire & South Cumbria NHS Foundation Trust for young people, aged 13 years to 18 years, to support the staff in the provision of planning, managing and evaluating specialised care.

To provide a specialist role in the co-ordination of care for young people and their families, who are residing in CYPMH Tier 4 placements out of the Lancashire/South Cumbria area. Also, be aware of the national demand for CYPMH inpatient beds and reliably inform internal staff of any out of area admissions/need for specialist out of area beds.

To work closely with The Cove Multi-Disciplinary Team. This will include referral and assessment discussions, formulations and recommendations.

To develop and maintain strong working relationships with stakeholders.

To work collaboratively with wider agencies in the assessment and planning of a young person’s care.

To deputise in the absence of the Ward Manager who has responsibility for the management of the ward.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • 1st level registered nurse.
  • Relevant mentorship or supervisory qualification (or a willingness to undertake within a 12 month period).
  • Minimum of 3 years post registration experience.

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge across a range of interventions and assessment methods related to the speciality.
  • A range of theoretical knowledge underpinning clinical practice
  • Working knowledge of: • Children Act 1989 • Mental Health Act • Children Young People & Maternity NSF • Child Protection recent children’s legislation

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Minimum 3 years CYPMHS Experience
  • Experience of providing supervision and case management to other Registered Nurses.
  • Experience of carrying out specialist assessments for gate-keeping purposes.
