Main duties of the job

The Medicine care group in Division B are looking for a Ward Leader to join our Respiratory High Dependency Unit (RHDU).  RHDU is a dedicated level 2 area for patients with acute or acute on chronic respiratory failure, within this we also manage domiciliary NIV, tracheostomies, PE thrombolysis and provision of ITU stepdown care for respiratory related conditions.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

What you’ll do

•    Provide nursing leadership and work with the Matron to enhance nursing practice and strategy
•    Manage the department and be responsible for ensuring 24 hr cover for the service
•    Facilitate evidence based care and act as a clinical expert at ward level
•    Support and implement changes to clinical practice in the area

What we’re looking for

You will need to be able to demonstrate the ability to promote a collaborative approach to caring for acutely unwell patients and will embrace the challenge of working in a busy and challenging environment, this is a full time position.  If you have a strong focus on patient care, proven leadership skills and are able to work inter-professionally across boundaries then we are keen for you to join our team. This is a great opportunity to develop your management and leadership skills. Evidence of your ability to create an effective learning environment is essential. You will need to be able to demonstrate excellent clinical skills and be able to support junior colleagues in their development.

Qualifications, knowledge, and experience

Essential criteria
  • 1st Level Registered nurse on relevant part of the NMC Register Management Course (or equivalent)
  • Recognised mentorship qualification and experience as a Sign Off mentor
  • Degree or working towards
  • Completion of appropriate specialty Course
  • Higher Education Institute approved course in supporting learners in practice. Supporting a range of learners in practice Supporting colleagues to promote effective learning in practice
  • Extensive experience in specialty to include considerable experience at Band 6 level
  • Evidence of clinical leadership ability
  • Proven management experience
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
  • Evidence of utilising evidence in practice
